• The Hickman County Arts and Crafts Guild has applied for a grant similar to the one that we received 2 years ago. This grant is geared toward the senior citizens, the disabled and the arts. This is a matching grant; we applied for $1,500. If we receive the money, we will conduct workshops at the Senior Center and at the East Hickman Public Library. We will find out in May if we received the grant.
  • The Hickman County Middle School After-School Art Club met on February 10, 2020, to finish their keepsake boxes. Mrs. Myra Orton continued working with the students in wood-burning their initials and the date on the bottom of the box. The students glued a piece of felt on the inside of the bottom of their boxes and painted the outside of the bottom of their boxes, except for the area where their initials and date was. Next, using faux stained glass paint, they began painting their designs by using a slight tapping technique. The area to either side of the design was painted with a white translucent paint, so that the entire lid of the keepsake box was painted. The students really enjoyed this project. Those assisting from the Guild were Mary Jo Leavers, Jim Babcock and Janet Pierce.
  • It was emphasized in the meeting the importance of keeping our display at the Chamber of Commerce fresh and updated. We need to change items in the display at least every 2 months. It was reported that Tennessee tourism is 6.5% above the national average. In addition, it has been estimated that 8.3 million tourist traveled through Hickman County in 2017.
